Lagos BRT Fare Hike: Commuters to Pay 13% More from Monday

Lagos Commuters Lament as BRT Fares Jump by 13% Effective Monday

By [Ohizu Chibuike Paschal] | February 24, 2026

Lagosians are facing fresh economic pressure as the Lagbus and BRT operators announced a mandatory 13% fare increase across all major routes. The new price regime is set to take effect starting Monday, March 2nd, 2026.

Why the Increase?

Operators cite the rising cost of diesel, spare parts, and the recent fluctuations in the Naira as the primary reasons. "To maintain our fleet and ensure passenger safety, this adjustment was unavoidable," a LAMATA spokesperson explained.

For the average commuter moving from Ikorodu to TBS or Abule-Egba to Oshodi, this means an extra ₦200 to ₦400 daily in transport costs.
