El-Rufai vs ICPC: Former Governor Sues for ₦1 Billion Over Home Raid

₦1 Billion Battle: El-Rufai Sues ICPC Over 'Illegal' Abuja Home Invasion

By [Ohizu Chibuike Paschal] | February 24, 2026

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has officially dragged the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to court. The ₦1 Billion fundamental rights suit follows a controversial raid on his Abuja residence, which El-Rufai claims was "unlawful and politically motivated."

The Grounds for the Suit

El-Rufai’s legal team argues that the ICPC invaded the property without a valid warrant and harassed occupants. The former governor is seeking ₦1 Billion in damages for the violation of his privacy and the embarrassment caused by the operation.

Political analysts view this as a significant pushback against the current administration's anti-corruption agencies, especially as rumors of El-Rufai’s 2027 ambitions continue to swirl.
